Notes from May 2008 Radiohead ConcertI typed this up a few days after my first Radiohead concert (swoon) and forgot to ever fix it up or do anything with it. I'm going to leave it as is and present it in its disjointed glory for public consumption. Lurv, Katie First of all, the openers, Liars, are mediocre at best. I failed to appreciate the music, though the lead singer's dancing abilities were intriguing. I especially liked this one move I will lovingly dub Broken Chicken Wings. I was not alone in my assessment of their instrumental prowess and song-craft. Towards the end of their set, the singer made the mistake of asking the crowd, "Would you like to hear one last song before Radiohead comes out?" Well, since you asked so nicely, no! BOOO!! BOOOO!!! Of course they played it anyway, and afterwards the singer, who had been charmingly vivacious and exuberant prior to asking The Question, quietly said, "Thank you," then walked off the stage visibly flattened by the weight of our collective antipathy. It was a shame, really, but it was his own darned fault. I had a That Guy standing just behind me who then yelled, "Yeah!!! WOOO!!! Give it up for Liars, people! YEAH!! YEAH!!! Oh MAN, they are so freaking AWESOME!! WOO!!" He then proceeded to helpfully encourage the headliners to magically appear on stage by hollering, "RadioDREAD! RadioDREAD!" at intervals. Almost everyone was looking at him like he was a complete idiot, but I later checked the internets for "Radiodread" just to make sure I was not missing out on some cutesy insider nickname or something. No. Radiodread is the name of ANOTHER band, a practically unknown reggae group. That Guy was merely being an enormous tool with delusions about his creative nicknaming skillz. Throughout Radiohead's set, That Guy danced (seized?) violently and offered unwarranted commentary regularly. I hope that I see him again some day so I can fulfill my fantasy of kicking his testes up into his chest cavity. It warmed the cockles of my heart to know that the band joined us in being wet and miserably unable to leave the parking lot until the wee hours of the morning. I kept Radiohead's original filename for this snap - "jonnyrain 2am washington.jpg." ![]() Loved the Ondes Martenot, Jonny! I've added "Attending a Bwitish Festival" (cf. Glastonbury, Reading, et al.) to mah bukkit list. |
